The building reflects the grandeur of public buildings in the early part of the 20th century. The exterior is masonry with granite at the ground level. The Seals of the New England states are carved in stone on the Pearl Street side of the building. Here one may also see the original bronze doors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. They were cast with the graceful head from a "dime" on one side and a "Buffalo nickel" on the other. Above the slit windows, the building is limestone. As a part of the restoration, the building is capped with an elegant glass mansard roof.

While luxury is a consistent attribute, each room maintains a distinct personality. Some have dramatic sloping windows. Others have stately sixteen-foot ceilings. While still others offer sweeping views of Boston. All are wonderful.
